ABOUT ME

Firstly welcome to The Expat Mindset. My name is Mike and I'm 40 years of age. Married for almost 15 years with two daughters, aged 13 and 11.

A corporate career guy for almost 20 years and recently found myself in a situation which meant moving away from my family, my normal, my home.

So today was a big day..

1st - My coaching specialism is defined.. I'll be focusing on expats returning to their home country and how they insert themselves back into life.

2nd - I started coaching a gentleman from Singapore who is looking to retire in the near future (his goal) but is worried about what life looks like once he exits the busy hectic working world he find himself in and how integrates back in to his family life and embraces retired life.

Whilst downtime is vital in the rapid ever changing world we live in, my downtime consists of firstly and the most important thing, family time, and secondly continually personal development and a better understanding of myself.

The brain is the most complex computer on this planet earth and without knowing it, you can deep root harmful/ negative thoughts, which unknowingly too you, will significantly hold you back in life.

There is one very important person missing from this photo (my wife who was taking the photo). A short 48 hour trip back to the UK for my wife's bday and to spend some quality time with my family.. In 48 hours we made some amazing memories and reinforced the strength of our family unit... The unfortunate thing being a solo expat means we always have to say goodbye.. 😌.. to be reunited in 3 weeks when they join me for a couple of weeks..

So true.. in todays manic world, with everyone striving for more in both a materialistic sense and personal progression sense, it's easy to forget where you come from.

What do they say.. 'A tree is only as strong as its roots'.

I guess I fall into this category. Why else would I be living 7500 miles away from my family.. for me, it's about creating what I hope will be a more financially stable environment for my family. Not so we can live any sort of lavish flash lifestyle, simply so I can follow my dream of coaching, mental health welness, and opening a mental health retreat.

So many people train hard in the gym to get the body of their dreams, but fail to train their brain.

Every day you have a choice... you can choose to hide, to deflect what's in front of you, or you can choose to face it head-on and embrace it.

Choose the latter, embrace the challenge, face obstacles head on, and move forward.

This morning, I woke up at 5 am... getting up was a struggle. After a full day's work, I could easily convince myself not to go and to sit on the sofa.. I could come up with a 1000 excuses for this. However, none of them will see me progress, and more importantly, not going will only cause my mental mood to dip.

MY BOOK OF THE MONTH

My recommended read for the month of September is Atomic Habits by James Clear.

This is a fantastic read and provides some really good techniques for making significant changes in your life.

A must read in my eyes.
